Victorian Brass Bridge Floor Lamp

The Story

A bridge lamp from the first decades of household electricity, built to swing its light out over the arm of a reading chair. The brass gooseneck arm carries an embossed floral garland, the pole rises through a gadrooned collar to a scroll finial, and the whole stands on a three-legged cast iron clawfoot base. The socket dates it: stamped ‘50 C.P. 250 VOLTS’ — candlepower, the rating early electric fittings wore before wattage became the convention — placing the lamp in the 1910s or ’20s. Magnet-tested at the counter: only the base is iron; everything above is brass under a naturally earned patina. The whipstitched parchment tulip shade is intact with age wear, and the original cord is untested — budget a rewire before it returns to evening duty. Tall and heavy; local pickup at the store, or free delivery within Richmond.
