The Story

A bridge lamp of the 1920s, the iron counterpart to the era’s brass examples. The arm is cast in an openwork fleur-de-lis filigree, the pierced hexagonal base echoes it, and the steel pole wears its original brass-tone japanned finish with a band of green polychrome paint still intact. Magnet-tested at the counter: arm, base, and pole are all ferrous — the brass look is finish, not metal, which is how these were sold new. The socket is true brass, marked S&S and rated 660W 250V. Structurally solid, with honest surface rust on the castings and wear to the japanning; the whipstitched striped drum shade shows its age. The cloth cord and early plug are original and untested — budget a rewire before it lights another reading chair. Tall and heavy; local pickup at the store, or free delivery within Richmond.
